Grand Rapids’ First At-Home Pet Hospice and Euthanasia Service

Heaven at Home is an at-home pet hospice and euthanasia service that attends to companion animals in need of aid during end-of-life transition. Founded by Dr. Laurie Brush, who was one of the first certified home hospice veterinarians certified by the International Association of Animal Hospice & Palliative Care, Heaven at Home is focused on ensuring a high quality of life for all companion animals.

Services are provided by a licensed veterinarian in the comfort of your home. This allows for a comprehensive evaluation of your pet’s condition in their familiar environment. It prevents needless suffering, yet through hospice care, can also extend your companion’s comfort and lifespan. Equally important, Heaven at Home strives to educate and emotionally support pet parents through their pet’s senior years.

We’re Here For You

We know that making end-of-life choices for your pet is daunting. We strive to make peaceful memories to comfort you and your family at this difficult time. The decision to euthanize a beloved pet is often one of the most difficult ones an owner can face.

When a pet can no longer be kept comfortable, or their quality of life has significantly declined, euthanasia is truly one of the kindest options.

Our team helps owners in the decision-making process by offering the knowledge and resources that will guide the family in making the best decisions on behalf of their pet.

We’ll help assess their quality of life, make improvements in the pet’s environment for their comfort, and can provide a variety of palliative veterinary supports such as fluid therapy, medication, pain management treatments, nutrition management, and more. This helps give you time to enjoy your beloved companion and to deal with anticipatory grief.

How We Work With Your Veterinarian

We believe in teamwork.

At your election, we are happy to work in partnership with your pet’s primary veterinarian to ensure continuity of care. This helps formulate a well-informed palliative care plan tailored to your pet’s unique health history.

We then keep your veterinarian apprised on your pet’s treatment plan and status throughout the process. We believe in coordinated care and consider veterinarian practices to be our partners in compassionate care for senior pets.

For Veterinarians:

We are also happy to receive referrals from local Veterinarians and have created a special referral form through which they can refer a client, sign up for a future Lunch & Learn session to learn more about fear-free euthanasia, or simply sign-up for our Veterinary Newsletter that is sent quarterly.
