Fran, affectionately known as Franny Girl, Franny Banany, Franers, and B, passed away on October 18, 2024, at home while her family held her, with the help of Heaven at Home, after a 2 month battle with Hemangiosarcoma.
She was adopted on July 22, 2017, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, by Valerie and Rob. Fran the black and tan coonhound arrived in Michigan from Mississippi shortly before being adopted, thanks to the efforts of organizations that work to rescue dogs in high euthanasia areas.
From the moment her family saw her, they knew she was meant to be theirs. Fran taught them many life lessons about patience, love, and how to ensure that a half dozen cupcakes aren’t eaten when you turn your back for just five seconds. Although she did not particularly enjoy the company of her feline siblings, Fran was a gentle soul to everyone around her. Fran loved her family very much. She was incredibly kind and patient with her human brother during the five years they spent together.
Her fur felt like velvet, and people frequently commented on how soft she was. Fran was truly a beautiful girl, inside and out. She knew she was the prettiest girl and adored any attention she received. At the dog park, she would often seek pets from humans rather than play with the other dogs.
Fran enjoyed barking at anything that moved outside the window, walking in the woods, interacting with her neighbors, playing with her canine friends, experiencing fall, consuming pumpkins, and marking her territory. Fran looked forward to the first snowfall of the year and loved taking naps. Most of all, Fran loved food. Some of the most notable things she consumed include a whole loaf of bread, a whole spaghetti squash (that included a pound of meat, 4 eggs, and a half pound of cheese), an entire bag of Reese’s Christmas trees (wrappers included), and anything left behind by the small child in the house.
Fran is survived by her human mom, dad, and brother. She was preceded in death by her feline brothers, Hero and Garth, and her human grandmother.
Franny Girl, you are the most beautiful dog I’ve ever met. Thank you for loving us.
