In Memoriam: Belle

By Jen Rushlo, published on October 25th, 2022
"When Belle was diagnosed with kidney disease two years ago at the age of 20, I had no idea what to expect. Our vet said the experience could vary greatly based on the cat. I called Heaven at Home almost immediately, and it was the best thing I could have done for Belle. I could tell how much they all cared about her (and me) and genuinely wanted what was best for all involved. Everyone I talked to was so compassionate. Dr. Tay prescribed medication to keep Belle as comfortable as possible and reviewed all options we had for treatment. Everyone was so fast to respond when I reached out, and would check in to see how Belle was doing. When it was time for her two year fight to come to an end, Dr. Barnes came out and made sure I knew what was happening every step of the way. I am so grateful to the entire team for their support with Belle and for going on this journey with me."

Belle lived an amazing 22 years and saw me through so many ups and downs in life including getting married and the loss of my Mom. My Dad and I saw her and her brother get thrown from a car window back when I was in high school and immediately stopped to get them. Her brother, Ollie, passed away about six years ago. When I first had her as a small kitten, I never imagined my kids (now 7 and 10) would also get to know and love her. She slept right by my side (or on it) every night since she was a kitten, and once the kids were old enough, she’d sleep right next to them as well until I went to bed. We were so lucky to have had such an amazing cat for so long who made it so difficult to say goodbye.
