In Memoriam: Nico

By Marti Ayres White, published on April 18th, 2025
"Thank you so much, Laurie, for your hospice skills, but most of all for your kind heart. Nico couldn't have had a better transition."

When we rescued Nico 13 years ago, he was scared, confused and reactive. We got involved in a Training Club to socialize him. He was terrified to get in the car at first — until he learned it usually meant we were going to Club. Over the years he became SO socialized — sat on patios, went to pool parties, frolicked in orchards, hunted for Christmas trees, went to ArtPrize and even marched in a Santa Parade (one of his Peak Experiences!). My empty nest dog, wingman and hiking buddy . . . we got to have 13 of his 15 years with him, and we had such a good time together, but he let me know it was time to let him go, and I’m at peace about that, even though we all miss him greatly.
