When we rescued Nico 13 years ago, he was scared, confused and reactive. We got involved in a Training Club to socialize him. He was terrified to get in the car at first — until he learned it usually meant we were going to Club. Over the years he became SO socialized — sat on patios, went to pool parties, frolicked in orchards, hunted for Christmas trees, went to ArtPrize and even marched in a Santa Parade (one of his Peak Experiences!). My empty nest dog, wingman and hiking buddy . . . we got to have 13 of his 15 years with him, and we had such a good time together, but he let me know it was time to let him go, and I’m at peace about that, even though we all miss him greatly.
