Dr. Tay grew up in Grand Rapids where she attended Forest Hills Central High School. She has worked as a veterinarian in and around Grand Rapids for twenty years. She earned her BA in biology at Kenyon College in Ohio and her DVM degree at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, she had the opportunity to travel to Zimbabwe as part of a veterinary student exchange program. This trip fostered a love for the continent of Africa and cross-cultural experiences. She has since traveled back three more times to visit and work, and reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in October of 2007. In addition to her love of travel, Dr. Tay is an avid reader, backpacker, enthusiast for all outdoor activities, and budding cross-country ski racer. Her dogs, Tracer, an Australian Shepherd, and Belle, a terrier-beagle mix, enjoy participating in as many of the outdoor shenanigans as they can talk her into, while her cat, Ivy, is much more sensible and prefers lounging inside on the couch. In addition to her work at Heaven at Home, Dr. Tay also enjoys teaching and feels lucky to work as an adjunct professor in the Biology Department at Grand Valley State University.
